Everspin Technologies, the MRAM group spun out of Freescale, says it has added Dell and LSI to a customer list of 300 companies using MRAM in 100 different applications. It says it had 250 design wins in 2011.
Dell and LSI are using MRAM for critical data storage in RAID systems.
Everspin can provide parallel MRAM up to 16Mb and serial MRAM up to 4Mb.
The company claims that MRAM can substitute for SRAM eliminating the need for external components such as resistors, capacitors, batteries or super-capacitors including additional power fail logic circuitry.
‘The elimination of these components improves data fidelity and system form factor while providing the most reliable solution at the overall lowest cost,’ says Everspin.
“We see our next-generation Spin-Torque MRAM products providing solutions for non-volatile buffers and caching applications as well as delivering a new nanosecond-class, gigabyte-per-second non-volatile storage tier,” says Everspin CEO Phill LoPresti.
