Semikron: Modular inverter for renewable energy

Semikron has introduced an inverter module for system integrators working in renewable energy.

Called Semistack, the three-phase assembly has three of the firm's half-bridge SKiiP intelligent power module (IPM) with integrated heat sink, IGBT, and driver with protective sensors and functions.

Alongside the IPMs are polypropylene DC link capacitors, AC connections and snubbers.

The modular topology is suitable for applications from around 450kW to more than 3MW.

"Semistack for renewable energy allows assemblies to be connected together at the DC link with a low inductance bus coupling connected between stacks. This makes it easy to configure four-quadrant applications and to parallel the inverters for higher power," said the firm. "Moreover, a brake chopper can be added by using another Semistack assembly. This flexibility enables the systems integrator to build a range of different power ratings using the same components."
