Freescale has added an i.MX 6 processor for eReaders, a follow on from its i.MX508 device.
Called i.MX 6SoloLite, it has an ARM Cortex-A9 core and an E Ink controller.
i.MX 6DualLite is a dual core version for tablets, IPTVs, IP phones, medical patient monitoring systems and home energy management solutions.
"Ports for Android 4.0 and other operating systems are available now," said the firm. "Because the processors are software-compatible with other i.MX 6 series devices, designers can create "good, better and best" end-product versions using a common platform."
The solo core runs up to 1GHz and has a 2D graphics processor and display controllers for E Ink and LCD panels.
"It also introduces a simplified power management structure to be integrated across the i.MX 6 series for the reduction of design time and optimisation of power efficiency," said Freescale.
The dual has 1GHz cores with integrated 2D- and 3D-graphics processors and a 1080p video processing engine.
It supports HDMI, LVDS, MIPI and PCIe, all with a 64-bit DDR3/LVDDR3 memory interface running up to 800MT/s.
The i.MX 6 series support operating systems, including: Android Version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), Linux, QNX, Ubuntu and Windows Compact 7.
Volume shipping is scheduled for the second half of this year.
