AVX claims it has developed a varistor with the fastest ESD response on the market.
The automotive multilayer varistor (MLV) is a low capacitance 0603 device that provides sub-1ns response to ESD strikes.
“The devices offer our customers the fastest ESD response of any multilayer varistor on the market today,” said Jeremiah Woods, global marketing manager for circuit protection.
The 0603 device can withstand successive 1k strikes at 8kV (IEC 61000–4-2).
“They also minimise the parasitic capacitance and signal distortion, maximising the signal strength and speed,” said Woods.
Meeting 27.5Vdc “jump start” requirements, the AntennaGuard MLV Series provides an ESD rating of 25kV.
The firm pitches the low insertion loss, low leakage current device as a more reliable option to diode options.
It also offers bi-directional protection in automotive applications, including RF circuits, sensors, GPS antenna and high-speed signal transmission lines.
