IBM to buy 'clustering' co. Platform Computing

IBM Corp. on Tuesday said that it has agreed to buy Platform Computing, a privately held company that helps customers combine multiple computers into computing "clusters."

IBM didn't say what it had agreed to pay for the Toronto-based company, which has more than 500 employees and helps manage 5 million processors.

IBM expects the deal to close before the end of the year.

Platform was founded in 1992 and has been self-funded.
