Silica calls National a 'jewel' in its analogue portfolio

Silica has added National Semiconductor products to its analogue linecard in Europe.

The move quickly follows the Texas Instruments’ acquisition of National Semiconductor, a deal which was completed last week.

“National Semiconductor’s portfolio is a new jewel in our analogue portfolio,” said Miguel Fernandez, president of Silica, which already carries TI’s analogue parts.

Of particular interest to the distributor is National’s strength in high-speed data converters and high-input power management ICs.

It also brings the SolarMagic range of solar panel controller ICs.

According to TI CEO Rich Templeton, National’s products are “a strategic part of TI's analogue growth engine”.

“Silica has been one of our important distribution partners, specifically when it came to support for design-intensive solutions” said Chris Allexandre, EMEA regional sales and applications director at Texas Instruments.

Silica has said it will add new sales and support resources across Europe to support the line of National products from Texas Instruments.

With finalisation of the acquisition, more than 5,000 National employees became part of TI.

The plan now is to make National a unit of TI's analogue business.

"The closing of this transaction allows TI to expand its market presence with the largest sales and applications team in the industry," said Templeton.

The combined analogue semiconductor business now represents more than 50% of the company's revenue.

TI said it will continue to operate National's manufacturing sites, located in Maine, Scotland and Malaysia, as well as business headquarters in Santa Clara and sales/design support around the world.
