NEC is demonstrating smartphone software at Mobile World Congress that automatically recommends the way an incoming call will arrive, based on an estimate of the phone's movement.
"There are an increasing number of communication methods for users to choose from, such as voicemail, email and SMS," said NEC general manager Keiko Matsunaga. "A person's activity, whether they are driving, in a meeting or exercising, has a significant impact on the best way to take a call."
The software collects and analyses data from the phone to decide, for example claims the firm, if the user is moving within a train, at a walking speed or stationary.
It then delivers the call in a format including: standard ring, voice message, text or email.
NEC will introduce the software on stand 8A125, Hall 8 at Mobile World Congress 2012 next week, and expects to be selling it by June 2012.
