RS Components has launched a PDF version if its catalogue in the UK, which can be downloaded over the internet.
But Ian Mason, chief executive of RS parent company Electrocomponents, told Electronics Weekly the distributor was not considering ending publication of its relatively higher cost but long-established print catalogue.
"We are still committed to the print catalogue, but it is true our view of the catalogue is evolving," said Mason.
Unlike the print catalogue, the digital catalogue has the facility to offer browsing 80,000 of the company’s most popular lines and also provides a window to the full RS range of 550,000 products available online.
"We see both the print and digital catalogues having a role as signposts to the website," said Mason
The catalogue is available in six languages across 23 markets as a customisable PDF download. When connected to the internet, the catalogue links to the RS website, providing customers with all of the latest product information and pricing.
“We carried out extensive research into how we could optimise the browsing experience for them and have designed this new digital catalogue to help them to more easily find their chosen products," said Paul Quested, UK general manager.
