Conexant launches new audio processor with USB2.0

Conexant Systems has announced a dual-core 32-bit digital audio processor that integrates for the first time a high-speed USB 2.0 interface.

The 800Mips digital signal processor (DSP) is based on the firm's new audio processing architecture, which it says lays the foundation for future chip developments.

“This new architecture, which combines a 32-bit DSP core, advanced power management and rich I/Os, is a first for the audio industry,” said Sailesh Chittipeddi, president and chief executive officer for Conexant.

“We are answering an expressed need in the marketplace for a platform that is customizable, yet comes packaged with best-in-class analog components and software algorithms integrated for full solutions,” said Chittipeddi.

The integration of more of the analogue functions such as the USB2.0 interface and a mixed signal codec is an important step for the audio chip supplier.

There is a C compiler, software tools and a suite of DSP algorithms.

The CX20805's dual-core 32-bit DSP runs at 200MHz, there is 520kbyte SRAM and 352kbyte ROM,  full duplex stereo I2S multiplexed with a four-channel PCM interface, a quad digital microphone with pulse density modulation support and 24 programmable I/Os.

There is also an  AES 128 decryption engine.

Samples in a small footprint 9x9, 116 pin, dual-row QFN package, and EVKs are available to qualified customers in March 2012.
