ON Semiconductor has demonstrated a 65W notebook power supply reference design with sub-10mW standby at the Applied Power Electronics Conference in Florida.
It is based around two unreleased components: The NCP1246 fixed-frequency current mode controller and the NCP4353 (or NCP4354) secondary side switch mode power supply controller.
The secondary side controller detects no-load conditions and signals the power supply to enter a low consumption mode, with the primary side controller deactivated and energy provided by the output capacitors.
Also contributing to low consumption, the primary-side controller includes X2 capacitor discharge circuitry, which eliminates the need for the X2 capacitor discharge resistors.
On the secondary side, there is control for constant voltage and constant current regulation, and an optional built-in LED driver for an adapter indicator light.
The firm also announced a 30A 100V trench-based Schottky rectifier, the NTST30100SG.
"Unlike planar Schottky rectifiers, the switching performance of the NTST30100SG is stable across its entire operating temperature range," said ON.
